Hamilton conceded the location of the capital to Jefferson, a Virginian, and so Jefferson agreed to Hamilton’s proposal that the federal government assume the debts of the states after the War of Independence – barter. One of the things that many people do not know about Independence Day is that on July 2, 1776, Congress officially declared independence from England. We celebrate the holiday on the fourth of July, because this is the day when John Hancock became the first man to sign the document.

The Cold War, a long period of nonviolent tension between the US and the former Soviet Union and now Russia; and the Gulf War, a war waged by more than 30 US-led countries against Iraq. The development of cars and airplanes increased factory jobs and led to a shift of more people living and working in big cities instead of working in small towns.
