How Fuel Pumps Work

This type uses rollers mounted on an offset disc that rotates in a steel ring. The fuel is brought into the spaces between the rollers and pushed from the pump inlet to the exhaust. This type of pump can generate a very high pressure and the flow rate is usually constant. But the output comes in pulses, so a damper is often mounted on the fuel line after the pump to dampen the pressure pulses.
